Both Toccoa Currents cabins welcome dogs. Not dog tolerant โ€” dog friendly. We built these stays with dogs in mind, and the setup shows it. River access, enclosed outdoor spaces, a full wash station, and everything your dog needs from the moment you arrive.

The River

The Toccoa River is the main event for most dogs. Headwaters sits directly on the river โ€” walk out the front door and the water is right there. Fish Head Lodge guests have exclusive community access to the river, a short walk from the cabin. Either way, your dog is in the water before you finish your first cup of coffee. Read more about trout fishing on the Toccoa River.

The river runs clear and cold over a rocky bottom. It is shallow enough in most stretches for dogs to wade and swim without getting into trouble, and deep enough in the pools to get a proper swim in. Most dogs do not want to leave.

Headwaters has a gated deck โ€” your dog can be out on the deck while you relax without worrying about them wandering off toward the river or the woods.

Fish Head Lodge has a screened-in porch with chicken wire along the bottom, keeping smaller dogs safely contained while you sit outside and enjoy the mountain air.

The Dog Washing Station

After a day in the river and on the trails, dogs come back dirty. Georgia red clay in particular gets into everything. Both cabins have a dedicated dog washing station so you are not trying to clean a muddy dog in the guest shower. We provide orange towels specifically for dog use โ€” the color holds up better against the clay than white ever would.

The Stick Library (Headwaters)

Headwaters has a curated collection of sticks. If your dog is a stick dog, the library is stocked and ready. It is exactly what it sounds like, and dogs love it.

Both cabins welcome dogs. Book direct and bring the whole pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to keep my dog leashed on trails near Suches?

Yes. The Chattahoochee National Forest has wildlife including black bear, deer, and wild turkey. A leash keeps your dog safe and wildlife undisturbed on all trails in the area.

Is the Toccoa River safe for dogs to swim in?

Yes, in normal conditions. The river is shallow enough in most stretches for dogs to wade and swim safely. After heavy rain the Toccoa moves fast โ€” know your dog's swimming ability and watch water levels before letting them in.

Should I worry about ticks in the North Georgia mountains?

Yes. Mountain forest means ticks. Check your dog daily and keep flea and tick prevention current before your trip.

Are dogs allowed at both Toccoa Currents cabins?

Yes. Both Fish Head Lodge and Headwaters welcome dogs. We provide poop bags โ€” please use them and leave the yard clean for the next guests and their dogs.
